TRIATHLON WEEKEND!!!!

September 17, 2011- Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon

Brett and Dave, friends since college, decided to train for and do their first triathlon together! It consisted of a 1500 meter swim, 20 km bike (a little over 12 miles) and 5k run (3.2 miles). Brett came to the house and they left together at 5:30 AM. I just had to snap a picture before they left!

Corina (Brett's wife) and I got together and made t-shirts for the kids to wear for their Daddy's first triathlon. They were very excited to see each other at the race!

Libby and Emma drove over for the weekend from Charlotte to cheer Dave on! She even made herself and Emma shirts for the race! Maaike loved hanging out with her cousin!

We tried to get our 6 kids together to show off their shirts but Maaike REFUSED to get in the picture and Lexi kept turning around... but you get the idea!

We also made a sign for Dave! You have to enter the race under a certain bracket... age group, weight, novice, and so on.... So Dave entered in the clydesdale division- over 200 lbs! So I had to put that on the sign!

Brett and his beautiful family when he crossed the finish line! Since they started in different waves according to the brackets they entered the race under, Brett started 40 minutes before Dave.

The weekend was even sweeter with Dave's sister and niece coming to cheer him on!

Dave and Brett had a great experience! I'm pretty sure we'll be cheering them on at other races!

A very pitiful family picture! Ben wanted nothing to do with it and he took something Lexi was holding onto so all she wanted was to get it back from Ben!

This t-shirt is very appropriate for the littlest Shaw! She did a lot of running away from me when she was freed from the stroller!

Dave did a GREAT job for his first triathlon! He finishes 14 out of 30 in the clydesdale division and his time was 1 hr. 32 min.

SWIM- just under 27 min.

BIKE- 37 min.

RUN- 24 min. (An 8 minute mile after swimming and biking!!! Crazy!)

Great job, Dave! We're so proud of you!
